Profile:

Sam is a part qualified patent attorney, having passed the

MSc in Management of IP with distinction at Queen Mary,

University of London in 2009. She also passed the

Certificate in IP Law and was awarded the Herchel Smith

Scholarship and the GlaxoSmithKline Prize for the highest mark on the patent law exam. She is now working toward the advanced and European exams.

Sam began life as a computational biologist working for biotech company Oxagen and at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, University of Edinburgh. Her research ranged from SNP detection and microarray analysis to sequence analysis and identification of novel GPCRs.

She then completed her DPhil with Professor Mark Sansom at the University of Oxford, applying molecular modelling and bioinformatics techniques to better understand the NMDA neurotransmitter receptor. As well as simulating the native receptor she introduced mutations and observed the effect on receptor dynamics and ligand binding.

Sam also has experience of in silico drug discovery and rational drug design which she applied to cancer research during her CR-UK postdoctoral research at the School of Pharmacy, University of London.
